The Village of Milan Building Department is certified by the Ohio Department of Commerce Board of Building Standards to enforce the Ohio Basic Building Code within our jurisdictional boundaries. All commercial / industrial, as well as residential projects, fall under the authority of the Building Department.The Ohio Building Code (OBC) and the National Electric Code(NEC) are used for all commercial/industrial work. The Ohio Residential Code for One, Two, and Three Family Dwelling Code, the National Electric Code (NEC), and the Ohio Plumbing Code (OPC) are used for residential construction in the City. All personnel employed by the Building Department are certified by the State of Ohio and/or other national code organizations.
The Erie County Health Department handles all plumbing permits and inspections throughout Erie County. Click here to go directly to their website for more information. The Village contracts all other building permits and inspection activity with the Huron Township Building Department located at: Huron Township Offices, 1820 Bogart Rd. Huron, OH 44839.
